The Electronic Bar Part 4

Early on in this blog we had a segment called the Electronic Bar. I was thinking seriously to changing the name of this blog to the electronic bar. In reality that is what I envisioned when I set up my site. Those of you that know me from forums know I xam patient and often comedic.

This site was set up as a comedic vehicle . Along the way we were attacked from the left. We like respectfull liberals and there are a couple that vist. The Recidivist is an anti Jooish, anti America moron who fashions himself a leader. His followers with two exceptions ( Zombie Cotiere and Hawke) were brain dead dolts. They got tired of getting whupped so they visit take notes and report back to their leader.

Now remember we do get liberal visitors and most are okay. However, I think the days of Invasions are over. Warren and Jason make life miserable for them here. The new game is drop an annonymous Facist and run. I insist upon open boards and no censorship and I endured about two months of hysterical crying. "Rascist,Liar,Facist
pathetic , illiterate and Warren remembers a few that I missed. We have two brand new
boggers who will be joining this forum.

My Nephew AH runs a music blog and is a good kid . He is kicking his Uncle's tail on blogshares. I didn't bother with the game but he bought shares in this blog and Warrens. I think he has beamish amd Citz com as well. His blog is Nicotine and Rock
and I came upith the Title. Since he lives in Marlboro and likes Rock Music it was a natural. His site is at NicotineandRock.blogspot.com/

Big Bubba is a hero of mine because he wore the uniform and was in Nam with the Marines. His no nonsense Texas style has made me laugh because he cuts to the heart
of the discussion. His take no prisoners style is a godsend . He also knows his military history. Http://mindlesstwitmagnet.blogspot.com/

I would like the more experienced blogs to offer some advice.

1 Should we censor comments or lock people out ? My answer is no but there is somthing hypocritical about a man coming on this blog and denying reciprocal rights.
I like comments set to allow annonomys poster even if the Rididivist sends trolls here.

2 If your blog is invaded what do you do ? My answer was to fight back and I have doubts that our blogs will not be invaded. It is a fun thing but I assure you they
had no fun in the UK. I had more coverage in the UK then in my own blog.

3
I boosted my readership in forums. Moonbat Central is a good site to promote your blog. I visited some of the bigger blogs and posted there. I got some readers from there. I also look at the comenters in other blogs and visit .

What advice do our more experienced bloggers have for the rookies ???

Reply as often as you can to your posters even if it is only a word or two, nobody wants to be ignored.

Support your buddies, they will help liven up your blog and sometimes take your comments in new directions that you haven't thought about.

Have fun! If your blog becomes a chore you will grow to hate it.

If you need help, ask for it. You'd be surprised what your buddies know. I'm always willing to help within the time constraints of the real world.

Be patient, The written word is subject to misinterpretation even more so than in face to face communication. Ask for clarification if you think there has been a misunderstanding.

Beak, I think its ok to delete nonsense that distracts from the subject at hand but given your forum, I wouldn't ban anyone and those anonymous posters sometimes have reason to post that way. That having been said; there are some that should be banned because they only troll, (Soc, et al).

Though my blog hasn't seen the huge comment-flood that many others have, I used to run a fairly high-profile forum, and my policy was never to ban anyone or delete anything.

Even when people are insulting and unhinged, I find that 90% of them can be cooled down when you treat them as a person--IE, tell them that you think they're getting unnecessarily personal, say that you disagree but that unless they actually want to discuss what it is you disagree, you won't reply any further. As I said, I find that most people will calm down if you can show them that you are a person, too, and you're well aware that they are also people.

Now, of course, there are the spammers and the people too far unhinged to listen. To them, you can just tell them that you don't feel they're listening and proceed to ignore them. If they don't get any attention, they'll usually just go away.

I’m still trying to figure out how to promote my blog and reach an audience who will consider my ideas. Agreement isn’t required – just intelligence and fairness.

I’ve started adding my blog to various lists of Conservative blogs. I don’t completely fit in any one category. I’d like to find a list of “common sense liberals” (as our mayor Ed Koch used to call himself) that are strong on defense and respectful of free enterprise even if they wouldn’t take it to the extreme as I would. I think we’d have intelligent discussions.

I’d also like the moderate Democrats to ditch the far left crazies like Michael Moore, John Kerry, Noam Chomsky, etc. We need a competitive two party system. I’d like to respect the other guy even if I disagree.

Adam I have praised the other posters profusely and deservedly so.

You have the most under rated blog
that I have visited. Jason and Warren Run fine blogs. I recomended both to FPM when they asked about a post. Big Bubba will
be a fine read and he really knows military history.

I am glad that the war with the left has stopped on thursday I wan't to do more forgotten people of the Middle East.

It is fun to parody the Recidivist
but the other subjects need coverage. I will do an occasional
electronic bar. Maybe we can pool
our Blogshare chips and advertise a smackdown once in a blue moon.

We can take a question and host it on a blog probably Jasons and invite Liberals . We can take an issue like the war in Iraq and advertise for the left. I will donate my 200 chips. It might be a great way to promote traffic.

Jason you can write the ad and it might be fun.

It does sound like fun but I think your blog is the venue. You are unbeatable when it comes to slugging it out with some people who quite frankly deserve it. And I glad you single out those whose disagreement and style deserve respect and separate them from the hate-mongers and far left crazies. But when it comes to people that need to be taken heads-on & no-holds-barred – I can only pass the ammunition. OK, I’ll give myself a little more credit: I get a few good punches in.

But, you’re right. We could get more traffic and with links back-and-forth to each others blog, we could get twice the excitement.

I have 200 plus Chips and it might
be fun . We can go down the blogshares list and find the worst
200 chips is alot.

This is an idea that has possibilities. We could sponsor an open house for conservatives. If we add my nephew and JB at Citzcom
we have over 300 chips. People like Kajando , Adam, Beamish, JB, Yourself submit a blurb and a sample post. Our conservative could learn about blogs.

What can we do to drive up trafic
and spend those chips.

Find your voice.
Be creative.
Post frequently and on a regular basis.
Don't take time off without saying so. People may think you just gave up and never come back to check you out again.

Don't try to out-beak the beak and don't try to out-drudge Drudge. In other words, be yourself. Unless you're a moon bat, then you should follow the party line and be the same as everybody else.

I got it, I got it you name your bar Joseph’s Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat Jooos Bar. For entertainment forget a band. Get one of those water dunk thingys where you throw a hard ball at a target and someone gets dunked. The dunkee could be a Jooo dressed like Shylock. While waiting over the water, he repeatedly recites,

". . . I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? Hath not a Jew.....If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, shall we not die?"

Now follow me on this. You allow people to act out any latent, or open, anti Semite hostilities in a non lethal manner. You would actually be doing a service for all humanity. The classic win win situation. The anti Semite crowd gets to act out in a safe, sane, non lethal act. The dunkee provides a valuable public service for his people and anti Semites. I see a Shylock like in Mel Brook’s memorable “To Be or Not to Be.” Remember the tall skinny guy with a goatee who always wanted to do Shylock on the stage, but Dr. Frederick Bronski thought he was the only one who could do Shakespeare. It would be great!

Was www.blogger.com under attack? I tried and tried to do some posts and the system was moving soooo slow. Finally it speeded up to par again and whoops - a double post. I didn't mean to, really. Delete it Beak. Delete both if you don't like my idea. I don't care. Free speech, Beak, always free speech. However, I think it is perfectly ok to delete/block a poster who floods a web site. That is about their controlling your blog, not you controlling your own blog. Nuclear delete the bums. If they want to talk about pedophilia delete/block and remove. Go away with your free speech elsewhere. This is not a pedophilia site. I am going to write about this some more on my blog because of my problems with David Horowitz and his free speechless site, FPM.

Running a blog is a lot like running message board lite.

Its not near as much headache but you are personally responsible for the attractiveness of the content.

I administrated two very different message boards, over two years, for disabled owners which had requested my help. One was focused on poetry and literature, the other on computer graphics for amateurs and rudimentary computer tech. Eventually I burnt out. Keeping both boards going and faithful to the direction of the owners took a toll.

On my own blog, I am responsible for content. I do not have to mess with the clashing personalities of moderators. No topics are started that I do not wish to address. Actual DNS attacks and malicious hacking are rare unless someone tries to take the whole network or a server down.

Blogger offers a great deal of range in the way you can create your blog. If you're savvy enough, you can even create your own personal style sheet.

I don't particularly care if I have a large readership. Sometimes I simply am not able to create. There are plenty of topical blogs out there and I don't care to merely echo what Glen Reynolds said.

Kajando gave good advice, don't try to be someone else.

That is a great name for the Joooos
bar. We can invite all manner of left wing bigots in. Maybe they don't define bigotry like the rest of the world. I asked two friends who were not Jewish to rreview that article. Their opinion is worse then mine. Simon Jones is a clown and the Recidivist is a moron .I would think both of them would have more sense then to come here.

We don't delette posts for two reasons. I am committed to free speech. The second part is there are no excuses for bigots. State your case but the facts will come from myself or readers.

I have several segments that I run.
The Electronic bar is my segment where we talk about blog policies
and introduce people. The forgotten people of the middle east is another segment . Hopefully we will not have to do another spanking the Recidivist.

Your blog will develop a personality. Kajando has the best advice be yourself. Experiment with style and format. Sadly I do
not see a comedic post on the near horizon, this was the original purpose of the blog.

Jason Pappas said...

Kajando does have some good advice. But I have to agree with Warren and realize that you can overextend yourself and get burnt out. That's a good warning, Warren, and from experience. That's why I may have to settle for less and have a blog-lite for a few likeminded spirits and friends.

Jason,
Don't settle, pace yourself and enjoy.

Advice on blogging?

I'm of the school that says "I'm writing the rules on blogging as I make them up." Nobody told me how to blog, and look where I'm at.

But, I've found two maxims to live by:

1.) Leave comments on blogs you find interesting. The curious will follow back through the link with your name to your blog to see what else you have to say.

2.) Use HTML hyperlinks! If people can't click on a link to whatever you're talking about, they may not be able to follow the conversation. Especially helpful are links to other blogs. Blog about what others blog about, add your spin and two cents. In no time, you've got a plethora of different viewpoints to praise or poo-poo.

3.) Don't ever tell me how to count maxims.
