On the Hot Seat with Rob Bayn

This segment promises to be interesting as in the hot seat is Rob Bayn. Rob is an independent Gay activist and he disagrees with me frequently. However, as with the Duck he has bravely entered the Hot Seat so lets applaud his courage.

Stereotypes

1 On a recent post I was surprised to find out you are sort of a football fan. I say sort of because the Detroit Lions just haven't been interesting since Barry Sanders retired. Is the perception that gays do not watch team sports just a stereotype ?
2 What stereo type about gays annoys you the most ?
3 Is the Bette Midler and Bernadette Peters worhip an oddity of the local NYC community ? Middler is annoying and Peters is okay on Broadway.

Group rights
4 You and I differ on this subject. I see all rights belonging to the individual. However you feel that groups should have some rights ? Can you elaborate on that?
5 What are your views on affirmative action and Quotas ?

Fun
6 Have you ever driven a pickup truck
7 Have you ever tried bowling ?
8 Does any group wear tackier clothing then golfers ? When I see them it looks like a nerd envy thing
9 Do you watch horror films

World Issues
10 This readership is aware of the lack of human rights for gays in Muslim countries.
Are there any countries that persecute gays that just slip under the radar that we should be aware of.
11 What are your views on free trade ?
12 How do you view China ? Is it a friend , foe ?

National

13 Readers will be surprised that both of us support the same Presidential candidate ? What led you to the Rudy camp ?
14 Is leadership an important quality in a President ?
15 Is Joe Lieberman missing Charisma ?
16 Do you feel your choices in health care are limited ? Do you wish you could buy health insurance tailored to your needs

Pop Culture
17 I watched Will and Grace and it is funny but I found Ellen not funny. Is the quality of writing a part of the reason Will and Grace was a sucsess and Ellen was a flop.
18 What did you think of the show Friends ?
19 What do you think of Simon of American Idol ? I can't stand him and would love to watch a show who gets to kick Simons butt. There are plenty of people who disagree with me.

Radio Show
20 When is your radio show on ?
21 Should I expect to be skewered ? It is okay as I have a sense of humor
22 What is the format of your show ?

Humor
23 Do gay people sterotype heterosexuals ?
24 Do you find Jerry Seinfeld funny ? I find him annoying and prefer the rest of the cast.

i'm going to take great offense at the tacky golfer clothing - what is wrong with what i wear golfing? would you prefer an evening gown?

Golf is not a sport. It's a hobby cleverly disguised as an activity.

Thank you for this oppurtunity Beak, i will answer each question with complete honesty, which could be scary! lol

Stereotypes

1 On a recent post I was surprised to find out you are sort of a football fan. I say sort of because the Detroit Lions just haven't been interesting since Barry Sanders retired. Is the perception that gays do not watch team sports just a stereotype ?

Gays not watching sports is one of the more stupdest Sterotypes of all time, which i think stems from gay men are not "real men", i personally enjoy sports, and i know plenty of gay men who also enjoy sports, and some don't. Take this into consideration, i'm the gay brother, while my other 4 brothers who are all straight hate sports, try figuring that out. On the other hand my mate hates sports, so i guess he lives up to that stereotype.

2 What stereo type about gays annoys you the most ?

That all gays are girlish, i'm far from being feminate, and feminate gays annoy me, you have a penis, act like it. I know many gays who don't dress in women clothes or do make up, however i do know a couple straight guys that do, which is really weird.

3 Is the Bette Midler and Bernadette Peters worhip an oddity of the local NYC community ? Middler is annoying and Peters is okay on Broadway.

I don't know who peters is, and Midler is some old lady i could careless about. I do enjoy plays and broadway, so i guess i got that stereotype down, lol

Group rights
4 You and I differ on this subject. I see all rights belonging to the individual. However you feel that groups should have some rights ? Can you elaborate on that?

Often groups represent the indivdual, sometimes people who are a minority and by no other means would have a voice, so therefore the group gives them a voice, so if you give personal freedom to a person, and that group represents 'persons' they should have the same rights as you would give individual's because they represent them.

5 What are your views on affirmative action and Quotas ?

Affrimative action is nothing but racism, if i was black i would not want a job just because of my color, i would want it because i'm best qualified. However there is no doubt racism often exists, but Quotas, and Affrimitive action is not the answer, instead requring employers to hire the best qualified person is, you should never be hired or denied or fired for your skin color, seems like common sense.

Fun
6 Have you ever driven a pickup truck?

No, have ridden in plenty pickup trucks, i'm not really a pick up guy, i like sports cars and convertables.

7 Have you ever tried bowling ?

I love bowling, just not the shoes, they are so tacky, so NOT stylish! lol

8 Does any group wear tackier clothing then golfers ? When I see them it looks like a nerd envy thing

Tiger Woods wears a good outfit, but Plaid is just a ugly look, i would suggest never wearing plain L.A., you might get beat up by a gang of golfers. But to answer your question, probably not.

9 Do you watch horror films

I love horror films, i recently watched Constatine, it was really good, despite Keanu Reaves was in it.

World Issues
10 This readership is aware of the lack of human rights for gays in Muslim countries.
Are there any countries that persecute gays that just slip under the radar that we should be aware of.

I think it is well covered here about the situation abroad, but it is just not Muslim nations, it's also in african nations, to places like Cuba, the list goes on and on.

I think GLBT groups are out of touch with this issue though, not enough attention is paid to world wide persecution of gays. I remember a few years ago when i listen to a interview of gay men in Saudi Arabia who had been in Jail for 15 years for being suspected of being gay, and their only refugee was Israel, and Israel was scare to let them in because of terrorist using people that posed as gay men to get in the country and commit terrorist attacks, it's a very scary situation in that region.

11 What are your views on free trade ?

Nothing is really free, i think America depends to much on Foreign nations to develp our products, this is part of outsourcing, but it's our own fault for not wanting to do these jobs. Free trade is only good if it works towards our advantage, i'm not sure that it is though.

12 How do you view China ? Is it a friend , foe ?

China should never be trusted, people seem to forget it was just a few years ago they held one of our planes captive, i don't trust nations that don't allow individual freedoms, when things are controlled by the government, only bad things can happen.

National

13 Readers will be surprised that both of us support the same Presidential candidate ? What led you to the Rudy camp ?

He's a honest man with intergrity, something i don't see from many on either side. He supports choice, he beleives in true freedom including gay rights. He also understands the threat American is under in this new age. What i really like about him, he is the only politican to stand up to the Saudi's, not even Bush has done that, instead he holds hands with the Prince, and considering the majority of the High Jackers on 9-11 were Saudi's, it sicken me that our president would do that, but with Rudy i know he would stand up for what is right.

14 Is leadership an important quality in a President ?

Of course it is, without it, you are not president, you are just your partys pawn.

15 Is Joe Lieberman missing Charisma ?

Just a bit, but you know if you have good ideas, that won't matter, i disagree often with Joe, but i stand up to democrats who think he should be out of the party.

16 Do you feel your choices in health care are limited ? Do you wish you could buy health insurance tailored to your needs

Health Care is a big issue, my health insurance is horrible. and the fact that we are debating boys kissing over health care often makes me wonder what is wrong with america's brain. Being healthy should be the goal of every soceity, seems like we are not, so yes i wish i could get the health care i need, but until we get leaders in washington that are serious about it, we won't, instead doctors and lobbyist will decide who gets to live or die.

Pop Culture
17 I watched Will and Grace and it is funny but I found Ellen not funny. Is the quality of writing a part of the reason Will and Grace was a sucsess and Ellen was a flop.

I thought ellens show sucked, but that may have been ABC, they havent had a good show since Full House. I don't watch Will and Grace much, here and there.

18 What did you think of the show Friends ?

I never really watched it in the begining, i mostly seen it in re-runs when i was bored out of my mind, it was that or smoke crack, i chose to watch it.

19 What do you think of Simon of American Idol ? I can't stand him and would love to watch a show who gets to kick Simons butt. There are plenty of people who disagree with me.

I love Simon, he is usually right, and reminds me of myself, rude and crude, of course i'm a jerk.

Radio Show
20 When is your radio show on ?

The plan was to be on in a couple months, but apparently the owner did not like the idea of a show that delt with dissenting points of views with politics, right now we are looking at other avenues, but who knows what the future will hold.

21 Should I expect to be skewered ? It is okay as I have a sense of humor

If the show ever gets off the ground, you can gurantee you would be braught up, maybe as a special guest. Humor is important, or else this whole politic thing can become very overwhelming.

22 What is the format of your show ?

The idea was something similar to Hannity and Colmes, Justin the conservative, me as the liberal, discussing the issues.

Humor
23 Do gay people sterotype heterosexuals ?

Often they do, i know some people who are gay think all straight people hate gays, i remind them, not all straight people do, sometimes they don't understand, they are brain washes with these images of what gays are like, the truth is most gays are just like everyone else, we just have a curtain fetish.

24 Do you find Jerry Seinfeld funny ? I find him annoying and prefer the rest of the cast.

Love Jerry Seinfield, his show was the best show of the 90's, however my favorite chracter was George, he reminded me of myself often.

25 Who is your favorite cartoon charachter ?

If we are talking classic cartoons it would be Donald Duck.

If we are talking now, it would be Cartman from southpark.

golf is the greatest sport, beamish - you take that back! it is only disguised as activity if you use an electric cart and i've NEVER used one in the entire time i've played - nearly twenty years. i only take one mulligan per hole and use the thirty second drill! take it back beamish...

robert - plaid is only ugly if you're extremely overweight. are you overweight, robert?

Freedomnow said...

Hey thats not fair, how come he gets an extra 24?

Robert Bayn said...

Plaid is ugly period, someones weight, my weight has little to do with that. But to answer your question, yes like the majority of americans, i'm over weight.

nanc said...

good robert - it's because you don't like plaid - ha! i'm on the right side of the weight issue and i LOVE plaid - so you tell me - is plaid wrong? it could mean the difference of a few pounds...

you're right fern - he DID get an extra 24 - what are we? the redhaired stepchildren? that's it for beak...

Warren said...

I would love to hear a radio show with you and Justin taking the liberal/conservative positions. I think its a great idea!

American Crusader said...

I wish Robert could have given me a better insight on Bette Midler idolizing I've never understood the connection.

American Crusader said...

Who was it who said that golf was the perfect way to ruin a good walk. I'm sure that's not the exact quote, but something like that.
Was it Churchill?

Robert Bayn said...

Crusader, i don't get it either, i never cared for her at all, than again i don't get hyped over the usual suspects either,

eg:

Madonna and Cher

Bette Midler may be a local NYC phenomena. The Lizzy Grubman worship in the local gay community is odd. Deborah Harry is a local and that fixation I understand. She is a delightful person that I met a few times in stores. She is still beautiful at 60 . She has a huge head on a small frame but it works.

nanc said...

well then, a.c., good for me i don't have legs like churchill! i love golf!

in my husband's pursuit of me, as i tried my best to scare him off as he is much younger than i - i told him if he didn't learn to golf we could not be about together.

i thought for sure that would scare the cowboy in him and he'd never bother me again, but when i told him i had a tee time for a 6:00 a.m. on a saturday morning and he showed up and we made our tee time - i knew what i didn't know before about him - he wanted me so bad that he was willing to go golfing in his wolverine work boots and tight wrangler jeans!

well, needless to say, he took to golf like a duck to water and just the mere mention of it gets him all twitterpated! that was nearly 17 years ago. i'm still working on the plaid part though...

Mr. Beamish the Instablepundit said...

Nanc,

I'm sorry. I don't mean to bag on golf, but "sports" to me implies epic struggle, warfare, sacrifice, effort, pain, and ultimately victory.

I feel the same way about baseball. You got a guy with a nice solid cudgel with nine guys all trying to hit him with a ball and if he smites any of them in the righteous fury of self-defense they throw him out of the game.

Waddup widdat?

beamish,

nanc

nanc said...

would someone please tell beamish i'm not speaking to him at the moment?

Mr. Beamish the Instablepundit said...

Nanc,

What about an Aztec version of golf. Losers get their beating hearts cut out and sacrificed to the sun god...

I bet that would make better golf players...

nanc said...

sometimes we play to see who can get the MOST points for our money...okay, i'm talking to you again.
