Sex Harassment Follies

Sexual harassment is a serious issue and women do have the right to work in peace without being propositioned or having their looks denigrated. However, the definition of what constitutes sexual harassment is a joke. The sad part is that a small minority of women make up the vast preponderance of complaints.

The first question is that in a multi person grouping certain people are just not going to get along with others. The fact that a man and a woman do not get along may have zero sexual issues. The assumption that this conflict has a sexual or ethnic component is absurd.

There is a common denominator with the complainers. Most of these complainers are fairly far left. The most notorious one feels that it was her mission to educate the world of the evils of sexual harassment. Consequently wherever she went this zeal followed her. I was not surprised when she went out on assignment with thirty other people but came back a month early. An incedent happened away and she was rushed back
to her home office. The question that some started to ask was how does one person find themselves in so many of these situations. Was she guilty of not getting along well with others? Did she use it as a crutch to avoid having her work scrutinized?

The problem with sexual harassment is the definition has been so watered down that anything can be desscribed as sexual harassment. The current wisdom is that the accused is guilty unless your last name is Clinton. The accused are not allowed to know who has leveled the charge or the specifics. Nor is the accused allowed to know how many other times this person has made similar complaints. The current system does lend itself to potential abuse and unaccountability.

The sad part is that these complaints seem to be a career booster. Most of these serial complainers will settle out of court and get advancement their work or skill did not warrant. Ruining other lives to promote ones own career is vile behavior. This mess is a perfect example of the real life consequences of allowing far left insanity into our legal codes. Sexual harassment is a real problem and is trivialized by constantly lowering the bar.

Mr Beamish in 08, Ducky failed to remember his line for AFLAC, 167 a ratings flop, Uptown Steve still upset about Huggy Bear and John Brown ridiculed by fellow radicals.

Whatever happened to the right of the accused to face the accuser?

The right to face your accuser or even view the specific complaint does not exist.People have been fired on the basis of an anonymous complaint. The person making the complaint get anonymity but it becomes apparent who the culprits are.

This notion of guilt without facing your acccuser or even knowing the exact charges is akin to a Commie show trial. In an arena where it is he said she said the history of the accuser should be viewed. Has this person made similar accusations?

It was discarded shortly after leftists gained enough influence in the system to deny civil rights by fiat.

Mr Beamish

Civil rights only exist for Commies like Ducky and John Brown who are devotees of a philosphy aimed at the destruction of the United States. They aslo exist for terrorists in such places at Gitmo. However for law abiding workers there is no right to justice when accused of a political crime.

if you're no good at it, don't do it. and especially if you're no good at it AND ugly.

it will be graded.

The problem is the term has been defined that if your friend spoke about baseball or car parts he could be charged despite being gay.
All the person has to do is claim they were uncomfortable. So no lawn mower talk or sports talk.

Robert Bayn,
at some point those who really are being sexually harrassed, may not be listen too, because the fakers have abused the law to a point no one is very sure sexual harrasment is going on.

I agree.

Why must the pendulum swing from one extreme to the other without finding the ground of common sense?

Back in the 70s, one of my best friends was raped by a coworker, her superior. She couldn't get her bosses to do a single thing about this crime, nor the police either. IMO, attitudes have gone too far the other way now.

Instances of sexual harassment certainly exist, but the cry-wolf whiners make the true cases more difficult to prosecute.

AOW

The way things are now the mere accusation would get your friends boss fired. Someone asked me why I eat alone. The reason is one can not be too careful.

I would look at a person who has made three complaints in differents locations more seriously. The problem is that even if a pattern was discovered this person could have had several people fired.

Lightning just doesn't hit the same place ten times in a row. When the obvious label doesn't get along with others comes in is unknown. However the culprit in this case will get monetary and promtional advantages over a series of dubious claims.

Sexual harassment could be settled with a quick visit by the woman's husband or father...

Heh.

Genuine sexual harassment is a serious problem and people should be fired. However two men making a joke about a tie in a newspaper or talking about sports is not relevant. A person with a huge number of trivial complaints has a problem getting along with others.

Beak, I agree; I'm just in a bit of a sardonic mood today.

The type who uses the system as a way to get ahead is deplorable. This is the same victim/user mentality that Cynthia McKinney displayed during her shameful encounter with Capitol Police.

Beak, a young woman acquaintance once made such a fuss that all the bus drivers and the men in general were ogling at her b**bs. Well, I just yelled at her (I have a temper that comes out once in five years or so - it used to be much more often when I was a little kid) saying why is she dressed that way then, with everything hanging out?

Of course she didn't get it, as well as those in the group. They just thought I was a little crazy. This is what we have to deal with!

It is strange but true that even today it's is easier to get someone in trouble because of 'sexual harassment" than to prove something as serious as rape.

A true gentleman appreciates beauty in silence. Your friend should have worn less revealing clothes. However a stare is something unquantifiable.

There is another dimension that goes without further notice. Most of these women are far left and the people they accuse are not. One can go past the cubicle and see
the PC signs and juvenile cube decor. One of the most flagrant persons had a sign with a cross, star of David and crescent with the word tolerance.

Tolerance did not apply to men discussing sports, hunting etc. I have no doubt that some of the stories had elements of truth. Yet a simple I don't like it when you do x would have been sufficient.

Unless the behavior is flagrant one will have to work with other people. Instead of handling a normal dispute like adults they leave a poisoned work place rife with tension.

I'm glad I never had to put up with this kind of thing. I'm afraid I'd pop a cork if I were accused of sexual harassment.

Some people are just trouble makers. Its unfortunate that it has become politically expedient to feed their neuroses.

beakerkin said...

Most of these very borderline issues men talking about sports or not being fond of soccer are just silly. A simple I don't like when you do X and Y is all that is needed.

There is indeed a political component as far left types are attempting to place their morality on others. There have been no complaints about women talking about chick flicks.

Genuine harassment is a serious problem but minor issues makes a joke of a serious issue.

So beaker, what would be your idea of "genuine harassment"?

beakerkin said...

Are you still waiting for a ticket to Gitmo

Propostitioning a coworker, denigrating their looks and general abuse aimed at them. The truth is that these codes allow far left types to place their morality on others.

Two guys laughing at a tie or discussing sports is clearly not harassment.
