Trifkovic claims 167 is correct about homosexuality in Islamic Countries

I am reading Serge Trifkovic's latest book in which he describes the true story of two young Turks who embraced Satre and were aparently gay. The two friends then just happened to blow themselves up as suicide bombers.

Now if being gay and reading Satre caused suicide bombings whole enclaves in NYC would be depopulated. Trifkovic seems to agree with 167 that homosexuality is rampant in the Islamic world but it is winked and nodded at. Somehow this just does not seem correct. The notion of crazed jihadis singing YMCA or Its Raining Men is a comedic thought.

Trifkovicis a brilliant writer but it looks like he may have over simplified this issue.

Could he be confusing two quite different matters? Today people are aware of being gay as a loving relationship between two people of the same sex. This is quite different than the brutality evident in prisons where the purpose is to dominate and humiliate. Thus, you are right that gaily singing Village People’s best hits is not the image appropriate to the supper-macho chest-beating savages in an Islamic theocracy.

I suspect Trifkovic is off on this one but I'll have to read his book. I don't know why it matters to him so much. In any case, if you want to see virulent homophobia just go to a Muslim chat room and mention Irshad Manji.

Homosexuality is a human variant and all cultures and time periods have had their share. The phenomena does certainly exist in the Muslim world. However Trifkovic seems to exagerate this a bit.

Ok so either i just don't get the Middle East, or someone is making some stuff up.

Pakistan's parliament just amended their rape laws to crack down on gang rapes.

That’s right Ducky, I found the one moderate Muslim … she’s there and she’s queer; get used to it! Of course, she hasn't had any speaking tours of Saudi Arabia or even Egypt. I wonder why. Perhaps your agent can get her a booking.

What's next? A homosexual male who is critical of Roman Catholicism?

Nah. We'll settle for a clueless moron leftist who is critical of the Bush adminstration. They're pretty scarce during the day when people are working, you know.

Ducky there are gay Muslims who are critical of the Islamonazi mania you dismiss. Manji has an excellent book and unlike Fanon she lived the life. This is also true of Bat Yeor who also lived there. However, Ducky gives credence to visiting Marxist interlopers who rely on interpreters.

The Duck is a bird brained ignoranus.

Hello Beaker, how are you? I've always wondered, perhaps its just me,but why doesn't the gay commuinty, which is always ready to pounce here in America at the least bit of any type of homophobia ever upset about how gays are treated in Muslim countries? Johnnymac.

In Caravans, Michener wrote a short segment about homosexuality in Afghanistan. On the one hand, the men in the town flocked to the two "pretty boys," but when the deeds were made public, executions took place.

From what several of my traveling friends tell me, homosexuality is quite common in the Middle East. According to what they have told me, on the one hand, homosexuality is practiced, but not in the sense of lovers (which we Westerners assume is the case), but more as a matter of availability and convenience; on the other, homosexuality is publicly punished.

I have Trifkovic's latest book, but haven't read it--yet.

According to what you've said here about what Trifkovic said in his book--that homosexuality is rampant in the Islamic world--perhaps it's any kind of sexual practice which is rampant, as in whatever is convenient. For example, portions of the Hadith speak of how to deal with bestiality.

See this article for additional information.

so what you're saying AOW is in the Middle East homosexual behavior is based upon targets of opportunity. No wonder the sheep run away scared.

Depends on who is getting caught I would imagine. Two members of the Guardian's Counsel going at it hot and heavy aren't going to be questioned much, because the person who sees them is likely to never be seen again themselves.

A couple of schmucks with no clout? Well, they just qualify as an example.
