Open Thread on Gays an interview for all readers of this blog who are not banned

I want to understand how the Average American feels about Gays. Perhaps my life as a New York City resident who spent time in the fashion industry has led me to a different
perspective. In my book it has always been a private matter of little or no consequence. I am puzzled at the extreme hatred of gays and of some gays for Christians
who see a more originalist view of sin.

I am going to try something new. I will do a ten question mass interview. I will answer
the questions first and would like readers to do the same. I request that communists with hold their comments until later, AFLAC.

1) Should gays be treated with dignity and respect barring other information?
Yes

2) Do you favor gay marriages?
No marriage is a religious term. I favor civil unions as a practical alternative.

3) Is homosexuality a private matter?
Yes

4) What does a persons sexual orientation say about them?
Not much

5) If your neighbor is gay how does it affect you?
It doesn't

6) Do some gays hate Christians?
Absolutely

7) Would you eat lunch in a public restaurant with a gay friend?
Yes. I have done so several times.

8) If you accidentally found yourself in a gay bar what would you do?
Probably finnish my beer and leave. This is unless the bar was playing Barbara Striesand, Abba or Bette Midler music and then I would run.

9) Do you feel that the mass media portrays gays in an almost missionary manner?
Yes. The Ellen show was a bore. The Will and Grace show had excellent writing with characters who happened to be gay. The show dealt with issues but didn't take itself to seriously. Will and Grace is the exception and the rest seems ham handed.

10) Would you listen to musicians that you knew were gay?
I have listened to Queen, but not the Village People. I don't care for disco music.

11) Would vote for a politician you knew was gay but you agreed with?
Yes

12) Do we make too big of an issue over a private matter?
Yes

Lets see your responses.

What do you mean "other information"? Do they have to pass some right wing test? Screw that.
Unqualified yes and you should be embarrassed you tipped your bigoted hand by even asking the question.

2) Do you favor gay marriages?

Yes, as long as marriage licenses are required then marriage is a civil benefit and gays should have equal protection.

3) Is homosexuality a private matter?

Only to the extent any issue of sexuality is.

4) What does a persons sexual orientation say about them?

Not much

5) If your neighbor is gay how does it affect you?

None

6) Do some gays hate Christians?

Do some Christians hate gays?
What's the point of this idiotic question?

7) Would you eat lunch in a public restaurant with a gay friend?

Many times. Male and female.

8) If you accidentally found yourself in a gay bar what would you do?

Been there and it wasn't accidental. There was one close to work that we dropped into all the time.

9) Do you feel that the mass media portrays gays in an almost missionary manner?

Americans are not ready for Berlin Alexanderplatz. We are an unsophisticated people who have to be moved slowly.

10) Would you listen to musicians that you knew were gay?

I imagine I do. Queen freakin' sucks though.

11) Would vote for a politician you knew was gay but you agreed with?

Yes and I have.

12) Do we make too big of an issue over a private matter?

Yes, but the "family values" crowd is to bigoted and scared of difference to let it drop.

Let me throw out a bit of honesty on this. My theory is that the distaste for Homosexuality among most men at least is more personality clash than anything. If I could describe it best, think back to college, there was at least one really hot girl who was just a b-word drama queen who always had to be the center of attention. Guys put up with her because of her looks but in reality they HATED her personality. I equate the common "Flaming" type of homosexual with having this same personality that just turns most men off in a big way, when a guy acts like a b-word drama queen it's tough not to dislike them.

I mean when a man comes up who acts like a man and says he is gay, most men tend to not think much of it one way or the other.. but when a guy is prissy and full of drama, we find it annoying.

I personally feel homosexuality stems from the same issues at an early age that also leads to child molesters and such. I'm not trying to compare the two morally as homosexuality is victimless. But most anyone would agree that a man who is attracted to children is not born this way, events in his life have lead to his sexual preference to be a bit distorted. You will find in most Lesbians either a history of sexual abuse, or other mistreatment from males I can say from the gay men I went to school with the majority were raised by their grandmother and brought up as a sissy, the ones who don't fit this rule had overbearing mothers and very weak fathers.

I think there is a connection there that makes people angry if one wants to look deeper at it.. but I do not believe one is born gay, but being as I said it's victimless I can't say there is a problem with it outside of just personal views.

1) Provided they reciprocate, yes.
2) No. Marriages were created for the procreation of children.
3) To the extent it is not a public health hazard (AIDS/STDs), yes.
4) a) That they are genetically normal and/or b) that they developed normally pyschologically
5) To the extend it remains a private matter, very little
6) Yes
7) Yes
8) It would depend about how "flaming gay" it was.
9) There's no doubt that "affirmative action" in support of the gay agenda is the rule.
10) If they had great tunes and no "agenda", yes.
11) No. His judgement is likely to be "perverted".
12) No. They do.

1) Should gays be treated with dignity and respect barring other information?
Yes

2) Do you favor gay marriages?
No.

3) Is homosexuality a private matter?
Yes

4) What does a persons sexual orientation say about them?
A lot!

5) If your neighbor is gay how does it affect you?
It doesn't, if they keep it private and do not flaunt it. Then again, if a heterosexual couple flaunted their sexuality, it would also bother me.

6) Do some gays hate Christians?
The majority, but not all.

7) Would you eat lunch in a public restaurant with a gay friend?
Yes.I would of course let them know I could not condone of their choices and most likely they would not care to eat with me...

8) If you accidentally found yourself in a gay bar what would you do?
I do not frequent bars. I was propositioned in a dorm room by a lesbian and I left the room quickly.

9) Do you feel that the mass media portrays gays in an almost missionary manner?
Yes, one would think every family has a perfectly adjusted gay family member by the number of shows promoting this image. They never show the gay people who are not well adjusted.

10) Would you listen to musicians that you knew were gay?
I guess I do.

11) Would vote for a politician you knew was gay but you agreed with?
If it were the best option overall. Such as a pro life gay over a pro abortionist.

12) Do we make too big of an issue over a private matter?
The problem is when they do not keep it private, which seems to be the norm. I could, of course, be very wrong with this perception. Being a ministers wife many people feel compelled to persuade me to their thinking, as if I can offer them some type of indulgence. Maybe they do not do share so openly with others.

1) Should gays be treated with dignity and respect barring other information?

Yes

2) Do you favor gay marriages?

Yes, but not strongly enough that it would influence my vote. I don't really care that much one way or another.

3) Is homosexuality a private matter?

Yes, or it should be. Somebody needs to tell gays that.

4) What does a persons sexual orientation say about them?

They like to dominate, or be dominated by, other men sexually. They are made that way in the womb and their lives have augmented that experience. Nobody has to be gay.

5) If your neighbor is gay how does it affect you?

Depends on his or her attitude. If there is a clearly visible chip on the shoulder, it might affect me, otherwise it doesn't.

6) Do some gays hate Christians?

Many gays, maybe most of them, hate conservative Christians, not necessarily all Christians.

7) Would you eat lunch in a public restaurant with a gay friend?

Lunch, yes. Dinner, maybe. Breakfast, absolutely fucking not.

8) If you accidentally found yourself in a gay bar what would you do?

I would probably catch on and leave before I had a chance to order a beer. If they were playing Abba, I would probably stay for one, then leave.

9) Do you feel that the mass media portrays gays in an almost missionary manner?

Yes, probably because half the people in Hollywood are five-alarm fires. You have to consider the source. Name some characters that are gay villains. I can't.

10) Would you listen to musicians that you knew were gay?

Queen, early Elton John, David Bowie-sure, as long as its good.

11) Would vote for a politician you knew was gay but you agreed with?

Yeah, but good luck finding one. Most gays seem to be against almost everything I'm for and for almost everything that I'm against. Openly gay politicians, such as Barney Frank for one example, would never get my vote, not because they are openly gay, but because of their stands on most issues.

12) Do we make too big of an issue over a private matter?

Yes, probably, but the problem is, many if not most gays don't seem to want it to be a private matter. They even go to the trouble of outing the ones that do, which is a despicable practice. There are many reasons to dislike gays in general that go far beyond their sexual proclivities.

It's a waste of time getting bothered about a persons sexual preferences, animals and children aside

Ducky's here said...

By the by, Beak, not that you'll learn but I try.

Marriage has Latin roots from the Romans and was used to refer to male unions.

The word's origin has nothing to do with the Christian religion.

beakerkin said...

Duck

Let me educate you marriage is a concept that predates the Latin language. All religions have lengthy rules about who can and can not marry.

1 Absent other information is another
way of saying all things being equal.

Jams

I tend to agree.

Pagan

Listening to Abba is deviant. I might break some sort of record to
get out of the bar.

Junglemom

9 I guess that is what made Will and Grace so special. The characters were as messed up as the
general public and thus real.

FJ

I don't think Queen had an adgenda
and if the village people did I have yet to discern what it is other than idiotic taste in wardrobe.

Misfit

You are talking more about maladjustment than gays. There are
heterosexuals who do behave like
that.

The princess drives me up a wall and her diva like behavior is a pain. She does love me as a friend but I can't ever figure her out.

She is very high strung and I am very laid back.

1) Should gays be treated with dignity and respect barring other information?

Gays should be treated with all the respect due someone who willingly participates in activities considered an exotic disease vector or behavioral disorder.

2) Do you favor gay marriages?

No.

3) Is homosexuality a private matter?

No. Homesexuality is a disease vector that puts society at large at risk.

4) What does a persons sexual orientation say about them?

It either says they're psychologically healthy, or psychologically depraved.

5) If your neighbor is gay how does it affect you?

The same way living next an open sewer or biological weapons lab would.

6) Do some gays hate Christians?

Obviously.

7) Would you eat lunch in a public restaurant with a gay friend?

I have no gay friends.

8) If you accidentally found yourself in a gay bar what would you do?

Start a riot by yelling "The Boston Red Sox suck!" ;)

It is unlikely I'd find myself in a gay bar, accidentally or on purpose.

9) Do you feel that the mass media portrays gays in an almost missionary manner?

Somewhat. I think the mass media portrays gays in an unrealistic manner. When they finally get around to talking about the alleged joys of farming Hepatitis-C colonies in feces encrusted rectal lesions, I think they will have done the subject some justice.

10) Would you listen to musicians that you knew were gay?

I do. But I wouldn't listen to music about being gay or that promote homosexuality as anything more than a disease vector.

11) Would vote for a politician you knew was gay but you agreed with?

No. It's doubtful I'd agree with a politician who felt compelled to tell me he engages in behavior considered a disease vector.

12) Do we make too big of an issue over a private matter?

It is not a private matter. Society has a right to know which of its members are actively grooming the next epidemic.

Hi, Beak.
I answered the same as you on nearly every question... except I stayed an afternoon about 15 years ago in a gay bar with my gay hairdresser who dragged me in there after having done my hair and makeup...I took out a cigarette and had about 40 Bics flash in my face "here's a light!" I stayed and enjoyed the afternoon...I felt a little like Bette Midler and Sally Fields "THEY LIKE ME"! I loved it.
Except when I had to go to the bathroom and needed Wayne to stand duty at the door (why I thought I was threatened is beyond me, now that I look back on it!!! Probably never in a safer bathroom except the ones here at home!)

Re; Gays on TV "missionary portrayal"? I didn't quite understand that but I will say the gays in films and TV seem EVERYWHERE (as if every house has one, which isn't true) and never 'real'...like their sexuality IS them, which it is not. My experience with gays on TV is that, were I gay, I'd resent being portrayed as the dumb, overly emotional ditz. But I watch NO sitcoms anymore, so...maybe I"m wrong.

I think all of the world would do better keeping everyone's sexuality to oneself.....gay or straight.

beakerkin said...

Mr B

This is about what I expected. Your responses do indicate a lack of contact. Saying the Red Sox Suck would probably draw a different reaction and definitely not a riot.

If you wanted to cause a riot tossing
a few packs of Benson & Hedges might
have a better result.

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Beak,

You know how I feel about the entire population of the state of Massachussetts. There's more straight people in San Franscisco. I've been through Massachussetts once (with the windows up and a quick stop at the first touchless car wash I found out of the state.) Even the trees are gay there. Gives me the willies just thinking about it.

I don't have a lack of contact with gay people. There are Red Sox fans at my work, all jabbering with that lispy non-rhotic Boston jizz gurgle.

Okay, seriously - I don't have my views of homosexuality from a "lack of contact." I have the baseline normal human view of one with the evolutionary instinct to understand societal sanctions against homosexuals come from hundreds of thousands of years of humans surviving virulent plagues and exotic diseases brought among them before 20th Century medicine made the risks somewhat manageable (and grooming antibiotic resistant strains of Staph. in our hospitals - survival of the fittest, yo)

We've had this discussion before.

Homosexuality is an act, not a fraternal order of show tunes collectors.

And that act is pretty fucking disgusting.

SecondComingOfBast said...

Beamish, I agree with you about it being disgusting, but on the other hand, I don't see what's the difference between man-on-man anal sex and man-on-woman anal sex from a disease vector perspective, which seems to be your main objection.

Like I said, I don't buy for a minute the political rhetoric that a person is born gay and has to be gay. That goes against everything I've ever believed about free will. I believe you can be any damn thing you want to be, and no one should let a sexual predilection define them. Of course, there are limits to what a person can be, but I can't accept that a man or a woman absolutely has to be gay because of some genetic or chromosomal dictates.

Of course, that doesn't mean a person absolutely has to march to whatever drum society pounds either. Man is a free agent and can be whatever he chooses. If they want to be gay, I'm not sure we have the right to press him to be otherwise.

If they want to change, they can. If they don't want to, then that's just the way it is.

Are you talking about GAY men or GAY women (otherwise known as LESBIANS) ?

1) Should gays be treated with dignity and respect barring other information?

GAY MEN only: It depends. Barney Frank definitely doesn't deserve to be treated with respect.

LESBIANS: Yes

2) Do you favor gay marriages?

GAY MEN only: I couldn't care less

LESBIANS: Yes

3) Is homosexuality a private matter?

GAY MEN only: It should be kept as private as possible.

LESBIANS: No.

4) What does a persons sexual orientation say about them?

GAY MEN only: Questionable taste.

LESBIANS: Great taste.

5) If your neighbor is gay how does it affect you?

GAY MEN only: If good-looking, "what a waste!". If bad-looking, "what a relief!"

LESBIANS: I get wet.

6) Do some gays hate Christians?

GAY MEN only: half of them do, the other half are priests...

LESBIANS: It depends. Jewish lesbians usually don't. I haven't met a Muslim lesbian who hated Christians neither...

7) Would you eat lunch in a public restaurant with a gay friend?

GAY MEN only: If he would pay, why not ?

LESBIANS: Yes

8) If you accidentally found yourself in a gay bar what would you do?

GAY MEN only: Watch.

LESBIANS: Stay.

1) Should gays be treated with dignity and respect barring other information?

I am a bit confused on this question, next one.

2) Do you favor gay marriages?

No, because homosexuality is an immoral choice of lifestyle.

3) Is homosexuality a private matter?

Yes; it should be kept that way and out of public view since it is immoral and since it is also a CHOICE of lifestyle; NOT biological whatsoever.

4) What does a persons sexual orientation say about them?

That they are either straight or they are acting gay.

5) If your neighbor is gay how does it affect you?

Wouldn't phase me in the least as long as they keep that shit indoors.

6) Do some gays hate Christians?

I'm sure some do, but then again some straights hate Christians too.

7) Would you eat lunch in a public restaurant with a gay friend?

I don't have gay friends; if I did, it probably wouldn't bother me.

8) If you accidentally found yourself in a gay bar what would you do?

Well, one time I played with a band in a gay club; when I found out I started laughing. Didn't bother me at all.

9) Do you feel that the mass media portrays gays in an almost missionary manner?

It is overemphasized far too much and I wish it would stop.

10) Would you listen to musicians that you knew were gay?

Seeing I like Queen, Judas Priest, Elton John, and Joe Jackson, and realizing as a musician there are lots of gays out there, of course, that does not phase me.

11) Would vote for a politician you knew was gay but you agreed with?

Yes.

12) Do we make too big of an issue over a private matter?

The MEDIA does.

Comment: Homosexuality is a sick choice of lifestyle, and there is no "gay gene," these people are not born homosexuals.

Why, I bet if there were suddenly a rule where if caught in homosexual acts or gestures and there'd be castration and sterilzation involved with no anesthesia, gayness and homosexuals would disappear....give the cops boltcutters and I bet this gay nonsense would disappear.
