Mr Beakerkin's trip home

I visited my old familiar haunts in Staten Island. The area has changed for the worse. My favorite news stand was near a trainstation and run by a surly Chinese man Lenny. For a twenty five years Lenny has been telling kids this is not a library. I would get a series of insults upon entry to the store.Lenny has sold the store to a Pakistani who is even more obnoxious then Lenny.

Vermont Pizza is dreadful so I went to my favorite mustachioed Italian place. The old Mustachioed Pete is replace by a less skilled Mexican. I tried the pizza maybe Old Pete imparted his craftsmanship. It wasn't even close and there was no pride. The Pizza was worse then the Pizza I loathe in Vermont.

The traffic in NJ and Staten Island is hair raising. Even at three in the afternoon the traffic on the Staten Island was brutal. I often listen with mild amusement at tales of woe at traffic on I89.

Mr Beamish in 08, Ducky to be smoked and 167 still looking for ratings

Ahhh, Staten Island. I've spent quite a few holiday-eve's there in traffic jams at 3am trying to get across the Verrazano and onto Long Island (to visit the in-laws). I guess I'm a good part of your "traffic problem" beak. Sorry about that.

ps - Regardless of what you say, NYC still has the BEST pizza, pretzels, bagels, deli, and hot-dogs in the world (but the Schaeffer and Schmidt's beer that New Yorker's use to wash them down has got to be the WORST beer on earth). But where else can you get a decent knish smothered in mustard to nosh on?

Beak,
The traffic in NJ and Staten Island is hair raising.

Is the traffic worse, or have you become accustomed to the lack of traffic in Vermont?

Beaker-5am into San Jose airport, we still hit traffic. I think in some of these big cities you never run out! Glad your back safe, hope Passover with your family was wonderful!

I did find Popeyes chicken with Drummaster. Popeyes never disappoints and is far and away the best fried chicken out there.

BLASPHEMY!

Thou shalt never call Popeye's Chicken anything but nasty.

You need to experience Lee's Famous Recipe. Lee taught the Colonel (Sanders) how to make good chicken. But, he obviously didn't teach him everything.

You've done done it. You've kicked off a mini-rant.

I wouldn't give Popeye's chicken to a dog if I was mad at them, even if I pissed on the "chicken" to improve the flavor.

I don't mean to get religious on you, Beak, but the Bible says not to lie. Lee's Famous Recipe Extra-Crispy spicy fried chicken is the best chicken you can buy commercially. If there's any better, God's keeping it for himself.

Damn now I'm hungry. How do I stop the hunger pains. Must think of something disgusting.

"Rabbit Feces Chip Cookies"

Nah...

"Mouthful of Popeye's Chicken"]

eeehhh...gag

I miss the mustachioed Petes and area merchants. It was an extended family but in Jersey there are still some local merchants but it is not the same.

Sorry to hear about the pizza. There used to be a place near St. Mark's Place that had good pizza but I'm sure it's gone.

I never heard of this Lees Fried Chicken bit Roy Rodgers is decent and I always stop in New Baltimore on 87. Popeyes has no stores in Vermont.

There is a KFC but I have only been there twice.

I don't think we have Lee's Chicken around here. I'm going to have to check the phone book.

My neighbor is from Georgia. Her fried chicken beats any I've ever had, even what my mother used to fix.

My best bought fried chicken was found at the S&W Cafeteria. We used to have one here, but now it's a huge Halal market. Burkas in and out every day. The Muslims bought out the ones who had bought out the S&W--the Chinese, I think; for a while, the old S&W was the fanciest of Chinese restaurants, but it didn't last long.

We have hardly any fried-chicken places here any more. We have LOADS of Latino places selling rotisseire chicken, and it oozes oil which tweaks my gall bladder. Decent flavor, but nowhere near as good as Southern fried chicken.

Hey Beaker, why don't you do a series along the lines of "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington"? Mr. Beakerkin goes to Vt. and Mr. B goes to whereever...? You can take the Mr. Beamish Action figure along as either a sidekick(oufff) or narrator!

Get out of here. Popeye's chicken is what you would feed visiting aliens who would invade and subdue the Earth if only they knew the taste of Lee's Famous Recipe.

Just look at Popeye's Chicken. It's a gobbing mess of vinegar-cut Louisiana hot sauce and flour trying to pretend it is spicy chicken. Somebody get me some of that pepper spray they use to take down polar bears so I can spruce up this wannabe Shake and Bake under a warmer lamp.
