The French Riots and the hypocrisy of the far left

I have been reading about the rioting in France with some curiousity. The far left has not found a way to blame Bush for the mayhem or carnage. If this were happening in Israel you would hear about this 24/7.

I remember arogant European intellectuals critiquing the status of blacks in this country. The problem in France is the same one America faced as European societies are no longer homogenous.

The problem is not racial but cultural. A disafected element of society will tend to riot regardless of race or ethnicity. The old way of thinking was to create a large safety net and keep masses content. Immigration is a privaledge and there are duties and obligations. Obligation one earn a living or get out. The free meal is over so either work or go back where you came from.

What is happening in Clichy-Sous-Bois is very sad. But the truth is that it has nothing to do with the left or the right (as you rightly point out by saying that it is cultural).

The problem is that the rioters have been excluded from mainstream society. They have been given no opportunities and no chance to succeed. Blaming the 'left' (which Chirac, Villepin and Sarkozy are not members of by any stretch of the imagination) is absurd. Blaming immigration policy which takes people in and doesn't help them integrate is the problem and is something which has been done by the left and right across the world.

I'm not sure you can call this a cultural war, because the French are unarmed in that regard and have been since 1815.

I want to disagree on a major point. The problem is a culture of entitlement not racial or ethnic. Hindus are not cause cebre and are not rioting. They are working each and every day .

We have gotten away from discussing the obligations of immigrants to work and live peacably. One is not entitled regardless of race to feed at the public trough. If you come here get to work live peacably or leave.

The cultural catering to every grievance and rationalizing barbaric behavior is fostering social unrest. The culture of low expectations is a sinister form of paternalism and that is disgusting.

Nine days of rioting--unbelievable! I'm worn out with excuses as to why Paris is burning. And stay tuned. "Blame-Bush" is coming soon!

And you're right Beak: I remember arogant European intellectuals critiquing the status of blacks in this country. The problem in France is the same one America faced as European societies are no longer homogenous....

Immigration is a privaledge and there are duties and obligations.

BTW, two of my black friends, presently unemployed, are getting mighty hot that immigrant day-laborers have makeshift employment centers (in various parking lots and without any accusations of loitering) while these two hard-working black men cannot do the same without the police showing up.

Reminds me of Detroit or Watts when folks decided to tell stinking little fascists like Beak to get screwed.

There you go again Ducky. I've told you already that fascism is a left-wing philosophy and always has been.

You do your fellow lefty Mussolinists a disservice by calling the Beakster a "fascist."

Mr Beamish

I was reading with disbelief Amir Taheris piece. Nowv the Muslims of France are calling for an end of the police presence in the occupied territories in FRANCE. This is beyond belief but of course when the French shoot a tear gas canister in a mosque it doesn;t get reported. Let an American do that and it will be days.

I support the liberation of New Algeria. The single greatest foreign policy mistake the United States of America ever made was to liberate Western Europe from the Nazis and then turn around and give that land to the French.

What???

Where's the link for this? I'm still trying to catch up from the car-breakdown days.

Never mind. I found the link.

The problem is economic.

The problem is cultural, which surpasses the merely economic. When you move to France, it is your duty to become French and CHANGE you bad habits. Otherwise, why not stay in your country of origin? If THEY had a viable culture, you wouldn't have to leave for "economic reasons". And if immigrants adapted culturally, they wouldn't have cause for economic complaint, for they would have acquired the habits necessary in French culture, for success.
