Beakerkin at Work

At work I make a point never to discus politics. The sole exception is for how proposed
legislation may impact our job.

Not surprisingly I get heat from some of my closest friends about Obama. There is the absurd claim that if you do not vote for Obama you are a racist. I point out that I do
not state my political opinions at work.

I understand the ethnic pride many of my African American coworkers fell for Obama. Yet, it is a leap too far to assume that particular person would vote for McCain on the basis of race. The notion that I am a Rudy Republican eludes my coworkers because I am so silent about my political views. One might infer it from the books I read.

For better or worse this silence is about survival. The rules of work are strictly enforced on my case alone. There are those who can skate through life without a care but I am not one of them.

Just tell them you are only racist against white people and are refusing to vote for the half of Obama that is white...

works every time.

Lighten up Beak.

A cabbie picks up a Nun. She gets into the cab, and notices that the VERY handsome cab driver won't stop staring at her. She asks him why he is staring.

He replies: 'I have a question to ask, but I don't want to offend you'

She answers, ' My son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I
am and have been a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and
hear just about everything. I' m sure that there's nothing you could
say or ask that I would find offensive.'

'Well, I've always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss me.'

She responds, 'Well, let's see what we can do about that -but first I have two conditions
1) you have to be single and 2) you must be Catholic.'

The cab driver is very excited and says, 'Yes, I'm single and Catholic!'

'OK' the nun says. 'Pull into the next alley.'

The nun fulfills his fantasy with a kiss that would make a hooker blush.

But when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying.

'My dear child,' said the nun! , why are you crying?'

'Forgive me but I've sinned. I lied and I must confess, I'm married and I'm Jewish.'

The nun says, 'That's OK. My name is Kevin and I'm going to a Halloween party!'

It's a-okay for blacks to vote on the basis of ethnicity, but the same is not true for whites.

Pffft!

Not that I'm advocating that whites should vote on the basis of race, either.

Today I gave my American Government class their current-events assignment for next week: Visit McCain's and Obama's web sites and print out the platforms they're campaigning on. We'll see what the students think of those platforms in class next week. I'm sure that Saul Alinsky will also come up in the discussion; one student today brought in an article about Alinsky.

Best stay away from politics completely at work, particularly when a civil servant.

AOW, whites have been voting on the basis of religion and ethnicity for decades.

Many will be doing the same old thing this election.

Everybody else does it, no reason whites shouldn't. From the looks of things, there are a larger percentage of whites voting for Obama than there will be blacks voting against him.

ducky-I'm interested in character...I'm NOT enarmored with mccain, but I will not vote for someone with NO INTEGRITY...i.e., obama.
I WOULD vote for;
Alan Keyes
J.C. Watts
Dr. T. Sowell
Dr. Walter Williams...
WHY?
Because they have good character and integrity.
I wouldn't vote for ayers or dorhn for the same reason I won't vote for their hand picked and groomed candidate.
Race has nothing to do wih it, especally since obama is 50% white and less than 10% black...
Beaker-Civil service is NO PLACE for politics...even if others ignore the regulations. So you are correct in NOT stating your choice.
Good morning, G*D bless and Maranatha!

Merry WIdow-

I don't know about Alan Keyes, he's a little extreme for my tastes. I guess my main problem with him is how he disowned his own daughter. That was hard. I don't know if I could support somebody that could be that cold-blooded and hard-nosed toward his own flesh-and-blood over something she more than likely can't help to begin with.

I know he probably don't see it that way, but you would think it would at least occur to him that it might not be her fault.

J.C. Watts, I feel pretty much the same as you do, but on the other hand, I've heard he supports Obama, or at least has tacitly done so and defended him. If that's true, I have to wonder how much integrity he really has, as its pretty obvious he would not have spoken out for a similar white candidate such as, for example, John Kerry.

Walter Williams is cool. Sowell I'm not familiar with.

If I had been in the Senate during the Thomas confirmation hearings, I would definitely have voted for him, and would move to censure some of the more malicious Senators who tried to derail him.

Of course if the Senate had any real integrity they would have censured, investigated, and banned Ted Kennedy years ago for perjury in the Kopechne case, so there you go.

Beak has a unique ability to see things that no one else sees, not unlike my Aunt Agatha, until she was sent away to a rest home and placed on medication that took away her abilities.

Alan Keyes is the bee's knees! ;-)

All right, it finally sunk in. Employees at the DHS, if I read this correctly, are engaged in political activism and, as if that isn't enough, harassment. What else do you call it when federal employees assert that if you do not support Obama you are racist? That's some pretty scary stuff. Obviously, they must be in the majority or they wouldn't feel comfortable being that outspoken about it.

...and win a trip to Disneyland if you can find a single important point on which they completely disagree (other than Iraq, abortion and taxes on people making over 250K)...

I understand the symbolism of Obama to African Americans. However, if rules are going to be enforced they must be enforced across the board. As
it is now we have the rules enforced
on one person arbitrarily.

Damn, that girl Sonja is just gorgeous, isn't she?

But back on track, this is a racist election year since blacks are all about voting for Obama only because of his color.
