The Future

In reality the notion of retiring in the 60's for people other than the military and police needs to go unless there is a clear health issue. The time to raise the retirement age and fix the pension rot is now.

Why do the cops take a pass? The spend as much time sitting on their ass as fire fighters.

While I agree with you, I would also like to point out that employers won't hire older folks, particularly women, for jobs that require climbing ladders, working outdoors, moderately heavy lifting (say up to 70 pounds or so), or other physically demanding work, even if they can prove themselves able to do the work. I applied for a job of that type, for which I was completely qualified, and everybody looked at me as though I had sprouted two heads.

Thirty years of 60 hour weeks, battling accounting and marketing and getting up at 5 AM were enough...
I opted out at 62. Good luck to those that can put up with it until 75 or whatever!
