Unfortunate

Its too bad that Sonia didn't stick around for a protracted conversation about film. However, the Duck and I will bandy about the topic of B films. What element of an actors talent allows certain performers to carry a B film? Are we past the age when larger then life actors can do this.

Excellent question.

I've never really thought about it and I do love the B's for a number of reasons.

I'm not sure it's much different than the requirements of any other film. The old time 30's horror films with Lon Chaney, Karloff and Lugosi were very well constructed and acted.

Look at some of the top B's from the 50's and 60's. The Blob, Carnival of Souls, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Godzilla, The Thing ... they all had pretty good production values and a cast that could have some fun and take a little pride in the product.

But as I say, it's an interesting question I've never really though about. If you want to do a little field research the "The Sadist"(1963). Very serious production values that make you wonder why it's an obscure "B".
