The Northwind

The Northwind blows in and out of my place. She lives free and fast unlike the rest
of us. Living hard and fast does catch up and when the postage comes due the bills left unpaid. She can't live live in the slow lane like you or I. Maybe it wasn't in the cards she was dealt from above. Maybe the next time the postage will be due it will be return to sender.

However, the Northwind blows without a care.Where the wind stops is unknown? Pointless freedom is just a waste.

  2. I should have used that name. We all live with the myth that we are indestructable. Some of us more than others, but we aren't and it catches up. The intelligent among us don't court this danger.

There is more to life than a pack of Marlboros and endless cans of Budwieser.

  3. OY! So she blew away and now it's just you and Earl. At least the 2 of you can fight over the meatloaf in peace! And no fighting with the hairdryer!
Good morning, G*D bless and Maranatha!

You can do better than the wind my friend!

  4. Beak,
    I love that song!

    The Wayward Wind

    -Artist: Gogi Grant
-the # 8 song of the 1955-1959 rock era
    -was # 1 for 8 weeks in 1956
-Words and Music by Stan Lebowsky and Herb Newman

The wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And he was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind

In a lonely shack by a railroad track
    He spent his younger days
And I guess the sound of the outward-bound
Made him a slave to his wand'rin ways

And the wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And he was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind

Oh I met him there in a border town
    He vowed we'd never part
Though he tried his best to settle down
I'm now alone with a broken heart

And the wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And he was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind

The next of kin to the wayward wind

But I wouldn't want to live it!

Northwind was never a real girlfriend and still is not one now. I thought she was on one of her frequent binges. She had a close call and has learned nothing from it.

Earl will be leaving after next week. There is one more cold snap on Wed with temps going into the minus ten range at night. After that it is clear sailing and Earl can resume his career. He is a wild animal and belongs outside.

I see him when I return as he mooches a meal and then disappears.
Sometimes he brings a friend or two but he is there almost every day when I return.

Sounds like Earl and Northwind have a lot in common.

Earl has a solid vocational plan. He is a wild animal, who likes to take it easy. He knows where I go there is food. If I read under a tree there is something left over for Earl. I tried giving him a can of sardines while I eat. He just wants his cut of the action.

Northwind just lives and nothing more.

  8. Survival and existence are a poor substitute for living! I'd rather live, spent for a cause I love, for those I love, than just for myself! How absolutely lonely!
Earl at least has the excuse of being a wild animal, and I'm sure in his wild heart there is some appreciation. After all he seems to trust you.

  9. No Earl just fell into my lap. I was eating a NYC delicacy when he wandered over. making nouses wanting his cut. In those days I blogged outside with a meal. Earl would come over looking for a handout and follow me around.

He stays under my car in the winter
unless it is real cold. He is there when I return at night looking for food. He has surprised me when I return at 3AM on a trip.

He is quite good at his vocation of being a feral cat. However why hunt for mice when the Beak is eating Sausage and peppers or brisket on rye.

  10. Not a stupid cat! He eats better in bad weather and good because of you! Sounds like he trusts you too, don't denigrate yourself!

  11. Remember, my time in VT was supposed to be a year. Northwind is as always for better or worse. I never took her seriously and these days she seems more interested in me than the other way around.

Like many others people around me have failed. However, the only person you can count on in the end is the man in the mirror.
