How would it be possible to step outside our frame of reference, leap generations and arrive at a new paradigm without the intervening and incremental steps of "enlightenment".

The concepts involved in creating this country are a miracle in their own right. Who but our founders could have conceived of rights granted to common man by natures God and a nation ruled by consent of the governed. Speaking of the ...Randall Patrick McMurphy said...
Speaking of the Founders:

Jefferson wrote: " that blacks were inferior to whites in both mind and body. Their inferiority is not the effect merely of the condition of their life...It is not their condition...but nature, which has produced the distinction." He noted that " besides differences in color and hair, black people secreted less by the kidneys and more by the glands of the skin, which gives them a very strong and disagreeable odor.". Jefferson continued: "negros are more ardent after their female, but love seems to them to be more an eager desire, than a tender delicate mixture of sentiment and sensation. Their griefs are transient...their existence appears to participate more of sensation than reflection.".

As for Jefferson’s comment on blacks, well he owned hundreds of black slaves and even though there was no law against educating slaves in Virginia, Jefferson didn’t bother educating his slaves. Also as far as I know Jefferson never went to Africa to see how free Africans tribes’ view of family and relationships. So Jefferson view is only that of slave owner. This is man struggling with the conscience of owning slaves and sponsoring individual freedom. So it easier to dehumanize those you need as slaves.

What Jefferson is commenting on is something he became so accustom too that he didn’t even see it, slave culture. Slave culture is the culture developed by the slaves within the limitation set by the slave owner. Slave owners found it cheaper for slave to produce children for slave labor than buy them as well as being able to sell them. So sex was encourage and some slave owner even had breeding plans. Slave owner would allow slaves to marry but these marriages were not official. So a slave owner could still sell a slave husband from his slave wife.

But there is a psychology aspect. If slaves can be sold at anytime and father and mothers can be separated from children and each other. What view about relationships would that have on a slave? Would not one develop the view that relationships are temporary? Plus what else does a slave have to look forward too? Male slave in general must of felt emasculated to be someone else’s property and sex was one way for them to feel more masculine. As well as for a slave male or female consensual sex was about the one thing they had a choice over.

As for Blacks urinating less and sweating more, it could be a simple fact that when you are in the heat or working hard you sweat and thus fluids are excreted through your pours and not your kidney. Plus this keeps the body from dehydrating too fast and it helps keep salt in your body. Body odor is typically bacteria mixing with sweat but yes one can excrete odor through sweat most of the time it more related to what you eat or drink. Beside how often did Jefferson have to work up a sweat, he had large slave force.

It is estimated that Jefferson had somewhere around 600 slaves. So I’m sure he did not know all of them nor hung out with them. I’m sure information he got was from the whites he hired as overseers who told him stories. And as we know some people will condemn a whole race on the actions of a few. It’s called stereotyping today and it existed in Jefferson time as well.

A few other things:
Jefferson also edit the New Testament in the Bible. He edit out Jesus’ miracles and resurrection as well as other things about Jesus and what Christian consider a foundation of Christianity.

Jefferson didn’t respect intelligent women and didn’t believe woman should hold public office.

Jefferson was for forcible removal of Indians who did not assimilate or were civilized. Jefferson wanted Indians to become economically dependent on white Americans.

I view Jefferson as a Founding Father of America and a great man but he was a man and a man of his time but not man of our times.Universal Realisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01663172615308776839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11044955.post-44071456161702343802010-07-30T15:29:27.582-05:002010-07-30T15:29:27.582-05:00And it's so much fun to mess with his Wikipedi...And it's so much fun to mess with his Wikipedia article, too. That would be the same Washington who freed his own slaves on his deathbed. Seems odd that hr would willingly set such an inferior creature free and loose inside the country he loved.

Jefferson was in no position to smell the negro, let alone obsrerve the "ardor with which they pursue their women". He sure didn't work beside them, and I doubt he hid and observed their lovemaking, though I wouldn't be greatly shocked if that were the case.

I think Jefferson probably got all these observations second hand from Sally Hemming, while she was ardently pursuing as much of his money as she could get her hands on and expertly stroking his ego, among other things, in the process.

I bet she also told him no black man had a penis which was his equal in majesty and statesmanship.SecondComingOfBasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03336586430250490679noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11044955.post-31890128799294099832010-07-28T02:44:51.938-05:002010-07-28T02:44:51.938-05:00Speaking of the Founders:
