I was born, here, in the very most southwestern part of Indiana.

I lived with my grandparents until I was 10, Your speech patterns are well formed by that age and I had a very heavy accent until I was in the Army and lost most of it intentionally. When I'm around Southerners, I lapse back into the accent. My relatives, especially on my mothers side, are a hoot when they speak, You'd probably need me to translate. LOL

I'll put up a couple of old pictures my mother found a few years ago.

The other half of my family have lived in this area since the early 1800s.

The Southern dialect is definitely influenced by the Scot/Irish settlers.Warrenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17720528359843578475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11044955.post-1141169150114638442006-02-28T18:25:00.000-05:002006-02-28T18:25:00.000-05:00Warren is from Indiana and not Southern. Mr Beamish is from Missouri and that isn't Southern either.

Interestingly, ebonics and the regional dialects have survived longer in the USA then where they originated.beakerkinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06088967209404588378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11044955.post-1141150828143122342006-02-28T13:20:00.000-05:002006-02-28T13:20:00.000-05:00HmmIt seems the Multicultural types messed up yet ...Hmm

It seems the Multicultural types messed up yet again.beakerkinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06088967209404588378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11044955.post-1141144533800783772006-02-28T11:35:00.000-05:002006-02-28T11:35:00.000-05:00Hey, I'm a big ebonics fan. And if some idiots wants to change their hard-wiring, that's there business... only they shouldn't scream "the GAP! the GAP!" after the standardized test results come back. After all, they deliberately left out a few circuits.

-FJAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
